Amazon has overhauled its logistics network to reduce the distance it travels between regions and packages

According to the Wall Street Journal, Amazon has overhauled its vast logistics network to reduce the distance packages travel in the US. Amazon executives, analysts and sellers on Amazon's platform say the company's overhaul has cut delivery times, changed how it manages inventory and adjusted the search results customers see on its flagship e-commerce site. Amazon has traditionally operated its domestic delivery business on a national model, shipping products that customers want to all parts of the US. Over the past year, Amazon has created eight regions that are designed to operate independently. Udit Madan, Amazon's vice president of shipping, said the arrangement means that Amazon doesn't move products across regions unless it absolutely has to. (interface)
